About farm: Gedeb is located in the southeastern corner of Gedeo Zone, bordering the Guji region, and is celebrated for its distinctive coffee profiles. Banko Chelchele is a community in eastern Gedeb, home to cooperative members and independent processing stations alike. Many facilities here take their name from the local town “Chelchele”. Thanks to high elevations, coffees from this area develop intensely aromatic, perfume-like volatile fragrances. Banko Chelchele Processing Station is privately operated by Azeb Tadesse. Covering 2 hectares, the station employs up to 200 workers during harvest season. Fresh cherries are accepted year-round and rigorously sorted according to ripeness and uniformity. Selected cherries are laid out in a single layer on drying terraces and sun-dried for 3–6 weeks until moisture reaches 11.5%. Once dried, the coffee is hulled locally before being transported to Addis Ababa. There, Tadesse Desta Import & Export Company carries out electronic colour sorting and manual handpicking to guarantee export quality. |
