About farm: El Laurel Estate started coffee cultivation on a half‑hectare plot inherited by owner Oscar from his father. Oscar later purchased additional land to expand the farm. With the support of his wife, they worked hard to develop and grow the estate. Today, Oscar’s sons have grown up. Passionate about coffee, they joined the family business and have helped steadily increase the farm’s total output. El Laurel Farm plants dense leafy vegetation as natural barriers to prevent soil erosion and reduce rainwater impact during the wet season. Following professional advice from IHCAFE technicians, they implement scientific coffee tree cultivation practices. El Laurel Estate entered the Honduras Cup of Excellence (CoE) competition in 2017 and won the championship with an impressive score of 91.81. In the same year, its coffee lots were auctioned at USD 124.50 and USD 122.90 per pound. The farm claimed second place in the 2nd Best Parainema Contest in 2023 and achieved 8th place again in 2025. *Parainema: A coffee variety suitable for mid‑altitude planting. It features resistance to coffee leaf rust and certain nematodes. It is a mutant of Sarchimor. Parainema plants are relatively large and commonly deliver prominent sweetness. El Laurel Estate’s Parainema earned first place at the 2017 Honduras CoE with a score of 91.81. |
