About farm: Traditionally, in Ethiopia’s coffee zoning, Yirgacheffe and Guji both belong to the Sidamo region, yet Guji boasts a distinctly different regional flavor profile from Yirgacheffe. This lot, the Gogogu Washed G1, is sourced from Wate Village Gogogu Station under Nigusse Debela in Uraga, Guji. Built in 2020 at an altitude above 2100 masl, the station serves approximately 510 smallholder coffee farmers in its jurisdiction, where coffee is grown at altitudes reaching up to 2400 masl — making it one of the most remote and highest-altitude areas in the broader Guji zone. Notably, Wate Village is also the No.1 producing area for washed coffee in the 2025 TOH Africa Group. The coffee is processed using the traditional washed method: ripe cherries are selectively picked, depulped, and then fermented in washing tanks for 60 hours. After fermentation, the beans are laid out on African drying beds to sun-dry for 17–20 days before being stored in warehouses. They undergo hulling and grading only prior to export. Thanks to its unique terroir and high-quality coffee varieties, the Gogogu washed coffee features bright citrus and stone fruit notes characteristic of Guji, alongside the rose floral sweetness traditionally associated with Yirgacheffe. |
