About station: Uraga is a sub-region of Guji, Ethiopia, with altitudes reaching up to 2,500 meters. Neighboring Yirgacheffe, it is one of the regions known for producing high-quality coffee. The unique natural environment—characterized by high elevation and abundant rainfall—provides excellent growing conditions, giving the coffee a rich and distinctive flavor profile: pronounced floral and fruity aromas, bright acidity, a smooth and balanced mouthfeel, a hint of sweetness, and a long-lasting aftertaste. All the coffee in this region is cultivated by local smallholder farmers who use traditional farming methods. They do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and all cherries are handpicked to ensure that every coffee cherry is harvested at peak ripeness. In recent years, Uraga coffee has also won multiple awards in TOH competitions. Haro Wachu is located in the Uraga growing area, where coffee is planted at altitudes between 2,450 and 2,500 meters. In the local language, “Haro” means “water source,” while “Wachu” refers to a type of local wood. Many nearby villages also carry the name Haro Wachu. Local farmers handpick ripe cherries and transport them to the Haro Wachu washing station. With abundant nearby water sources, the washing process is more refined, allowing the coffee to display rich floral, peach, and sweet orange notes. The agricultural practices here largely preserve traditional and organic farming methods, protecting both the land and the integrity of the coffee grown upon it. |
