About Station: In the traditional classification of Ethiopian coffee regions, Yirgacheffe and Guji are both part of the broader Sidamo region. However, Guji possesses a completely distinct regional flavor profile, different from that of Yirgacheffe. This particular batch of Gogogu Washed G1 coffee comes from the Wate Village Gogogu Station, operated by Nigusse Debela in the Uraga area of Guji. The washing station was established in 2020 at an elevation of over 2,100 meters, serving around 510 local coffee farming households. The coffee-growing altitude within this area reaches up to 2,400 meters, making it one of the most remote and highest-elevation zones in the entire Guji region. Meanwhile, Wate Village was also the origin of the 2025 TOH Africa Category – Washed Coffee First Place winner. About Process: The station employs the traditional washed process. Fully ripe cherries are carefully selected and depulped, then fermented in water for 60 hours in fermentation tanks. After fermentation, the parchment coffee is spread on African raised beds for 17–20 days of drying under the sun before being stored and hulled for export. |
